HERE IS A MESSAGE YOU COULD COPY AND SEND TO THOSE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST:

For nearly two decades, a group of Prince Edward County residents have been supporting wind energy initiatives. The White Pines project near Milford looks to be the answer to that quest. But with four of the nine turbines up and ready to capture wind energy, the provincial government recently halted the project. The County Sustainability Group presents Up in the Air, a short film about the wind turbine project in Prince Edward County.

To whom it may concern,

With respect, I ask of you, as our elected representative,  to do everything within your powers to reverse the recent decision to cancel and revoke the contract for the nearly completed 9 turbine wpd White Pines Wind farm project in Prince Edward County. I also ask you to not proceed with the current  proposal to dismantle them. This is a pivotal time in our history when our window of opportunity to act decisively to address climate change is only 10 to 12 years before tipping points will be reached that will have catastrophic impacts on our civilization. Tearing down a wind farm is not part of the solution to our problems and will further diminish hope.

The UN’s International Panel on Climate Change is urging governments to immediately move climate targets from 2 degrees C to 1.5 degrees C. We are now at 1.2 degrees C. We must rapidly  de-carbonize our electricity system, as is happening across Canada and the entire world, by increasing the amount of energy from clean, affordable, infinite renewable energy sources such as would be provided by this 20 MW wind farm in Prince Edward County.

We have entered the era of ‘The New Norm’: Massive forest fires, rapidly changing weather patterns, extreme heat waves and the exponential rate of extinction of species we share this Earth with. CO2 levels are rising and have reached between 405 and 412 PPM ,O2 production is falling and oceans are warming as a result of human behaviour.  Is this the legacy our generation wants to leave for our children and grandchildren to deal with?

Sincerely,

Most politicians by and large are not acquainted with the consequences of future temperature instability. If they were, they wouldn’t be advocating to build pipelines; to expand the tar sands ecocide; to ignore the threat posed by toxic tailings ponds; to grant permits that increase fracking; to funnel huge hidden subsidies to  the fossil fuel industry.

The IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels makes it clear that we have only till 2030 to avoid dangerous, runaway carbon loops that will destroy civilization.

Please ask you colleagues to advance a climate mitigation plan based on science. Time is of the essence.

The IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels makes it clear that we have only till 2030 to avoid dangerous, runaway carbon loops that will destroy civilization. We have to base policy on climate science and stop immediately all subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. Please work to develop a plan to achieve the  1.5 °C target.

We only have till 2030 to reduce global warming to  1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels . The IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming makes it clear that failing to achieve this target will mean disaster for civilization.

Please lead your party not  to recognize the threat posed by policies to build pipelines; to expand the tar sands ecocide; to ignore the threat posed by toxic tailings ponds; to grant permits that increase fracking; to funnel huge hidden subsidies to  the fossil fuel industry.

Science (and common sense) demands that our energy policy needs to quickly make a 180 ° turn.

Time is of the essence if we are going to avoid dangerous carbon feedback loops that threaten civilization. We have, according to UN scientists, only until 2030. Citizens need you to convince your colleagues that we need a credible policy to limit carbon emissions to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels.

The IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming makes it clear that we must keep carbon emissions to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels. Continuing to exploit Canada’s tar sands is not only uneconomic, it is extremely foolish to ignore the threat their exploitation poses to civilization. As politicians it is  important to counter the misinformation campaign of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, explain this existential threat to civilization.

We must develop immediately a clean energy policy to meet the 2030 target.

You cannot build a sustainable economy based of ecocide. Proposed tar sands expansion is a clear crime against humanity. Now the IPCC Special Report on global warming impacts makes it clear that we have only until 2030 to make a 180 ° turn in our energy policy. Not achieving the target of limiting emissions to to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels is unthinkable. It would mean the end of civilization as we know it. Tell your party that we need to stop all subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. We need a clean energy policy.
